Haircare Guidelines

This is by far the most important thing I need you to take from this lesson. Please show up to your wedding with hair that is BONE DRY. For 99% of the weddings I do, we have a specific schedule we’re on and getting off even by half an hour can sometimes make things stressful. We DO NOT have time to blow dry anyone’s hair before styling it, and I cannot successfully style hair that has moisture. Please be mindful of this when you’re choosing what your hair plans are the day/night before the wedding. If your hair is super thick, you may not want to take the chance of letting it air dry if you wash the night before. This is so important to keep things running smoothly.

You know yourself best. If your hair tends to get greasy quickly, you probably want to set aside time to wash (and blow dry if needed!) the night before or morning of. It is a myth that I need slightly dirty hair to be able to style well. I would much rather “dirty up” your clean hair with product instead of try to combat grease. General rule of thumb is if you would not feel comfortable wearing your hair out to a nice event in its current state, you probably just need to wash it. If it can’t be fixed with 2-3 spritzes of dry shampoo, we are going to be better off starting with clean hair instead.

Curly girls: if you are not wanting to wear your hair natural, please let me know this ASAP and we can talk about a plan together. More often than not, I have my curly brides either get a blow out or straighten their hair before the wedding. It’s time consuming, and most weddings I do don’t have room in the timeline for it. Most of my curly brides just straighten the day before and we’re good to go in the morning. I can touch up curly roots, but we’re going to get behind if I’m having to straighten large sections. Of course I also love when brides stick with their natural curls, so that is alternative option.

Please get a trim if at all possible before your wedding. Trims help your hair look healthier and fuller. If you have extensions you’re wanting to use, make sure to bring them to your stylist to ensure they are color matched to your natural hair, and cut to an appropriate length. If you are wanting your updo/half-up style to really pop, maybe consider getting some dimension put into your hair (highlights/lowlights).

We’re all about preserving precious time! Brush through your hair before you arrive, and try not to wear a ponytail or twisted/braided style to avoid kinks.
